Pulse
Pulse
Annual Theme:
For the 2011-2012 school year, our theme will be PULSE. We at FUMY will be considering our “spiritual pulse.” Throughout the year we will be looking at “PULSE” in various ways:
•We will attempt to isolate what the “PULSE” of our youth group is ... what is it that makes our collective heart beat?
•We will be asking our students to reflect on weather or not they have a PULSE.
•We want to assist our students in finding out what makes them feel especially alive, what their PULSE is ... what makes their heart beat quickly, and then to empower them to use those things in ministry and for God.
•We will be sharing our PULSE - We are blessed with an incredible group of councilors who all are vibrant God fearing people, all obviously alive - we will be hearing from them - talking about what makes them tick, and who gives them life.
•We also will be talking to people from outside of our youth group, from inside and outside of the church - the aim here is to show that vocational ministry is only one expression of a “spiritual pulse,” which is in reality expressed in any situation - not simply within the wall of the church.
Biblical Backing for PULSE:
John 11 - This chapter narrates the death and resurrection of Lazarus. Note the following statements by Jesus:
“ Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. The one who believes in me will live, even though they die; and whoever lives by believing in me will never die.”” (John 11:25-26)
“Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believe, you will see the glory of God?” So they took away the stone. Then Jesus looked up and said, “Father, I thank you that you have heard me. I knew that you always hear me, but I said this for the benefit of the people standing here, that they may believe that you sent me.” When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!” The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, “Take off the grave clothes and let him go.” (John 11:38-44).
Romans 5:12-20
“For if, by the trespass of the one man, death reigned through that one man, how much more will those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and of the gift of righteousness reign in life through the one man, Jesus Christ!” (Rom 5:17).
John 10:10
“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come that they may have life, and have it to the full.”
